Solitaire Marble Sets

My solitaire marble sets are inspired by my cherished grandfather's very old oak solitaire set kept in the games cupboard under the bay window. The idea is that you try and remove as many marbles as possible, by jumping only one marble at a time - and only forward or sideways - no diagonal moves allowed.

The game ends when you have run out of moves - a reasonable result is to have 4 marbles left. A pretty solid result might be 2-3 and an amazing result (that ideally should be independently witnessed!) is one only.

I've inherited that same treasured original set (now around 160 years old!) and after seeing so many visiting kids and adults alike enjoying playing it, I've started reproducing these by hand in beautiful timbers!

Each set has a hidden bottom compartment to hold marbles when travelling or not in use. I usually add in some spare marbles to keep here. I take great care with selecting marbles to match timber tones. If you have a preference for marble colour themes, I'll always try and accomodate this.

The sizes of the sets varies slightly, depending on how the timber behaves / the mood I'm in / phase of the moon and other quite unpredictable things like knots and eccentric things trees tend to dol

At the moment, I make these in a variety of timbers, depending on what I have available in my workshop. I use Huon Pine (very limited stock), American Walnut, Tasmanian Blackwood, Western Australian Jarrah and Victorian Alpine Ash.

I typically only keep one or two sets in stock and prefer making to order. If there is a particular type of timber you prefer, feel free to let me know and I'll try and source it.
