Percussion Sticks - Huon Pine

After breaking too many commercial percussion instruments on stage, I wanted to design my own - with a priority on creating something out of tactile and robust native timbers. I nickname these percussion instruments "speed sticks" or "jingle sticks" - as for me anyway, they're a lot more ergonomic than playing a traditional tambourine.

With deeply shaped handles and an orientation that's more like a drumstick as an extension of the wrist, I can keep up a very fast beat without fatiguing. The sides are shaped, sanded to 800 grade and sealed with 2 coats of polyurethane to remove any annoying sharp edges and minimise hard palm impact.

These produce everything from a full cymbal sound down to a very light vibrato trilling - assisted by generous clearances on all 12 of the paired 38mm cymbals. At around 270mm in length and 42mm across, these are hand-cut with six separate cymbal bays for extra strength to withstand a lot of impact stress.

These are available in two sought-after native timbers - a lighter, creamy Huon Pine from salvaged trees in the Pye River in South-West Tasmania; or alternatively, a slightly heavier, dark red Western Australian Jarrah.

To protect these beautiful instruments, each comes in its own hand-stitched Italian leather gig case.
